‘Never forget that it is by your meditations that you allow your inner Self to express itself and reach its full flowering. This is the means by which you can release this mysterious, subtle being so that it can gaze on all that exists in infinite space and then reproduce it on the physical plane. Of course, we are practically never conscious of the realities that this being gazes on, but if we continue to do these exercises regularly and often, little by little they will reach our consciousness and constitute an inner treasure that will always be with us.’

‘Every ideal, whatever it may be, has a magical quality: it is linked to us, and it transmits something of its very quintessence. If we have chosen a very high ideal, it will constantly supply us with beneficial particles and currents. Since we have shaped it and kept it in our mind and heart, it will always be there to improve conditions until, one day, we find we have new conditions in our life which our ideal has prepared for us. But this will only happen if we love our ideal, if we think of it, nurture it and, despite its immensity and the distance that separates us from it, cradle it in our heart and soul.’

‘There are spiritual foods just as there are material foods; in the same way that you eat bread and drink water each day to feed your physical body, you must nourish yourself with the sun – its warmth, its light – so as to nourish your spiritual bodies. In this way you will become truly alive. So, try every morning to watch the sunrise as if you were seeing it for the first time, and it will always appear new to you.’

‘Ordinary humans nourish themselves only with solid, liquid and gaseous elements. And what do they do with the fourth element, light? Not much, nothing. They don’t know how to nourish themselves with light which is more important than air. Very few people think about nourishing themselves with light. In the past, everyone ridiculed us because we went to watch the sunrise in order to be nourished with the most important element, light.
‘Why must we nourish ourselves with light ? To feed the brain. The brain also wants to eat, and its food is light. We feed the stomach and the whole body with solid and liquid elements ; we feed the lungs with air, and we forget the poor brain. It is nourished only by the solid, liquid and gaseous particles… That is why humans remain ignorant of celestial things, why they don’t understand divine things, why they don’t see clearly : because they haven’t nourished their brains with light. By nourishing the brain with an element as subtle as light, the result is different.’Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

A great many people today feel the need for some practical methods that will help them to grow spiritually. A ‘New Earth’ responds to that need. It contains a number of simple, effective, spiritual exercises taken from the thousands of lectures given by the Master Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov over a period of nearly fifty years. Some concern our everyday life: nutrition, breathing, hygiene, purification, and our relationships with nature and other human beings. Others touch on questions that are more directly spiritual: meditation and prayer, the development of our psychic centres, or chakras, the aura, the body of glory, and so on. All these methods grow out of that immense body of knowledge known as initiatic science, the principal goal of which is the advent of the ‘new heaven and the new earth’ announced in scripture.

‘”Know thyself”! All science and all wisdom lies in knowing oneself, in finding oneself, in the fusion of one’s lower self with one’s higher self. The symbol of the initiate who has succeeded in finding himself is the serpent with its tail in its mouth. A serpent forms a straight or wavy line, and a line is limited. But the serpent with its tail in its mouth forms a circle and a circle represents the infinite, the limitless, the eternal. He who succeeds in becoming a circle enters a world without limitations where the ‘above’ and the ‘below’ are no longer separated, because all the powers and all the riches and virtues of the true, higher self have been infused into the lower self. The higher and the lower become one and man becomes a divinity.’

‘You say that you pray, that you meditate, but that there are no results. Here is a very simple but very efficient way to link yourself to the Lord. When you want to pray you create an image, that of a multitude of spirits spread throughout the whole world, but who, wherever they are, are in the process of concentrating on the Creator. Through thought, you link with these beings so as to pray with them. In this way your voice is no longer isolated in the desert of life and you appeal to Heaven together with thousands of luminous beings. Such a prayer is always heard because of the collectivity, and you benefit too. It is because you act alone that your thought does not reach its goal and it comes back to you. The secret is to unite with all those who are praying, for at every moment somewhere in the world there are beings who pray.’Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

‘Have you ever realized that fire is visible only if it is accompanied by light? This is because light is the matter by means of which fire manifests itself. And if we transpose this image onto a higher plane we find that light is the substance which emanated from God, the primordial Fire, at the beginning of the world, when He said, ‘Let there be light’. It is this Light which St John, in the Prologue to his Gospel, calls the ‘Word’: ‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… All things were made through Him…’ Light is the Word uttered by the Creator and by means of this Light He created the world.’

‘Every one of our thoughts is pregnant with the power of the spirit which brought it into being, that power is constantly at work. Knowing this, each one of you has the possibility of becoming a benefactor of mankind; by projecting your thoughts into the farthest reaches of space, you can send out messages of light to help, comfort, enlighten and heal others. He who undertakes this work knowingly and deliberately, gradually penetrates into the mysterious arcana of divine creation.’

‘How wrong we are to think that silence denotes emptiness, nothingness, the absence of all activity or creation. In reality, there is more than one kind of silence: the silence of death and the silence of a higher degree of life. It is this silence, that of the higher degree of life, that concerns us here and that we must try to understand. This is not the silence of inertia; on the contrary, it is the stillness that surrounds a work of great intensity taking place in a climate of perfect harmony. Nor is it emptiness or absence; on the contrary, it is fullness, a fullness comparable to that experienced by two human beings who love each other very deeply and share something that cannot be expressed in words or gestures. Silence is a quality of the inner life.’

When you open your eyes in the morning, what do you think about? The worries from the day before, the difficulties that await you, the problems you will have to tend to and so forth. This is not a good way to start the day. Set aside your worries till later, they can wait. Start by directing your thoughts towards heaven saying, ‘Lord, I am thankful to be alive today. It is a new day – one for me to see, hear, walk, love and study. Strengthen my will so that everything I undertake will be in the service of good.’
Someone who expresses their gratitude to the Creator the moment they awake increases their inner love and light, and this love and light influence every moment of their day. They see the world around them with different eyes, they have a better attitude towards the people they meet, who open up to them because they feel the peace and joy they radiate.

‘Each human being can be compared to a drop of water, and each drop of water falls exactly where Cosmic Intelligence intended it to fall so as to accomplish its task.
Each drop has to sacrifice itself in one way or another, by quenching the thirsty, refreshing those who are hot, washing those who are dirty after a day’s work, watering the seeds in the fields, and so on. Yes, the sacrifices demanded of water are many – it is used to make bread, cook food and even to dissolve poison – and it must never rebel against what is asked of it; it must always accept. When it has fulfilled its mission, it can return to the heavens and become transparent again. The same is true of human beings.’Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

“Silence, peace and harmony are expressions of the same reality. Do not believe that silence is empty and mute – no, silence is alive, vibrant and it speaks, it sings. But we can hear it only once the big bass drums stop beating within us.
Thanks to contemplation, prayer and meditation, we will one day be able to hear the voice of silence. Once all the chaotic forces have finally subsided, silence will draw near, spread out and wrap us in its splendid cloak. A clarity will come over us and we will suddenly sense that something very powerful reigns above us and governs us: this silence from which the universe emerged and to which it will one day return.”Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

A meditation for each day of the year
20 December – “The only way to master your instinctive impulses is to have a love for a high ideal. And what is a high ideal? It is a longing for beauty, the spiritual beauty that is purity, light and harmony. When you contemplate this beauty, you naturally and spontaneously turn away from all that is unhealthy, dark and chaotic. Your love of beauty is a protection; it is like a garment that you want to keep clean.
What do you do when you are wearing beautiful clothes that you particularly like? You do not engage in activities in which you would run the risk of tearing or soiling them. You instinctively pay attention to your gestures and look where you sit. Well, in the same way, if you make up your mind to develop your taste for the world of beauty and try to draw closer to it, you will feel as though a subtle garment were gradually being woven around you, and in wanting to protect it, you will be protecting yourself.”Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

A meditation for each day of the year
22 June – “You want life to be smooth and pleasant, without problems or unhappiness. But why don’t you ask yourself about the underlying meaning of the obstacles that exist in nature and in life instead?
If the path up a high mountain were smooth, you would never be able to climb to the top in order to breathe the pure air and admire the beautiful view, because you would have nothing to cling to. You would keep sliding down to the bottom of the precipice. This is what happens to those whose life is too easy, too comfortable: they lose their grip on life – as well as on their fortune, their health, even their sanity. Since you are climbing up the slopes of a spiritual mountain, do not ask that they be smooth. Be grateful for the rough edges, for it is they that give you a handhold and enable you to keep advancing towards the light.”Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

A meditation for each day of the year
17 March – “Human beings need role models. When they see someone who is their superior, they want to be just like them. So, if your superiority consists in having more money, more power or more glory, you are not a very good role model. Why? Because you are leading people down a path that inevitably drives them to dominate, humiliate and supplant others.
Whereas, if your superiority stems from your spiritual qualities – kindness, wisdom, self-control, nobility, generosity, purity and selflessness – not only will you sense that they truly belong to you and enable you to rise above difficult circumstances, moreover, you will help those wanting to follow your example to choose the right path and find happiness.”Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov
