‘Although we may know about heliocentricity from the point of view of astronomy, we are still far from having exhausted all its possibilities in the biological, psychological, cultural and spiritual spheres. The sun exists within each one of us and, if allowed to, can manifest its presence by awakening our consciousness to a global view of human problems.’
Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

‘Why is one born in a particular country and a particular family? Why is one healthy, rich, illustrious and powerful, or on the contrary poor, handicapped and miserable? Even those who think they are entirely free must put up with their fate because of their ignorance of the laws which govern the invisible world. The reply to these questions not only helps the disciple to unravel the tangled threads of his life, it also gives him the tools he must have in order to become master of his own destiny.’

‘Is it possible for education to begin before birth? Yes. Because true education is primarily subconscious. A child is not a little animal which you can start training as soon as it is old enough. A mother can have a beneficial influence on her child in the womb through the harmony of her thoughts, acts and feelings. And this pre-natal influence must be faithfully continued once the baby is born, for, as all parents should realize, a tiny baby is highly sensitive to its environment. Ultimately, it is by example that parents and pedagogues should accomplish their educational mission.’

This is not a dietary handbook. In fact it has little to do with diet. Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov teaches that our attitude toward nutrition is far more important than what we eat or how much we eat. He restores to the act of eating the mystical significance it attained at the Last Supper. Even the reader to whom this spiritual aspect is foreign will realize that his attitude toward food can lead to a deeper understanding of the relation between man and nature, for nature supplies man with food, and man, if his thoughts and feelings are attuned to nature, becomes capable of extracting from his physical food the subtle elements necessary to the full flowering of his whole being.

The dragon, that fabulous beast common to all mythologies as well as to early Christian iconography, is not a pure fiction; it is the symbol of man’s instinctive, primitive forces. The great challenge of the spiritual life is to learn to conquer, tame and use those forces so that we may reach the highest peaks of the spirit. The fact that this fire-breathing monster with the tail of a serpent also has wings shows that the forces it embodies have a spiritual destination. Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov says, ‘Sexual energy is like petrol: if you are ignorant and use it carelessly you will burn yourself; your very quintessence will be destroyed by this all-consuming force. But Initiates, who know how to handle it, use it to move freely about the universe’. This is the true meaning of the winged dragon.’

For the last few decades, men have been trying to deal with the world’s problems on a global scale and, for this purpose, have created countless cultural and political organizations. But it is not enough to set up organizations with a universal vocation: as long as the individuals they represent are unaware of their own vocation to universality, all their organizations will be powerless. Haven’t we already seen proof of this? An awareness of universality is the fruit of a long and patient education and it is the foundations of this education in universality that we find in the teaching of the Master Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov.

Although the idea of a spiritual Master is becoming more and more familiar to the general public, his nature and role are still poorly understood, even by those who claim to be disciples. The main purpose of this book is to clarify this question. Some may find this clarification a little ruthless, but it is necessary, for it is of first importance not to delude oneself about spiritual realities. It is true that a Master is that prodigious being who can lead men to the highest summits of the spirit, but for him as well as for his disciples, this sublime venture can succeed only if it is accompanied by a rigorous inner adherence to truth and selflessness.

Previously entitled Under the Dove, the Reign of Peace
‘Many people think that they are working for world peace when, in fact, they are not actually doing anything to bring about that peace. They do not realize that their first step must be to establish the reign of peace and harmony in every cell, every atom, every particle of their physical and psychic being, so that peace emanates from them into the world. They write endless books and convene endless peace conferences; everyone agrees that peace is the one thing they want, and yet they continue to feed the fires of conflict in their own hearts. In these conditions what kind of peace can they hope to bring to the world? When peace reigns in our own thoughts, feelings and actions, then, and then only, can we truly contribute to peace in the world.’
Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

‘The fact that the Feasts of Christmas and Easter coincide with the winter solstice and the spring equinox is evidence of their cosmic significance. So we learn that the human being, who is part of the universe, participates intimately in the natural process of gestation and blossoming. These two feasts are two different ways of celebrating the regeneration of men and women and their birth into the spiritual world.’
Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

‘The solution of the question of evil lies in knowing the methods of how to work with it and to use its power. What-ever its origin, evil is an inner and outer reality which con-fronts us daily and which we have to learn to deal with. To attack it head-on is not only useless but dangerous: the odds are too heavily against us. So we have to learn the methods to use in order to gain the upper hand and transform evil into good.’
Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

Freedom has become such an important political stake that we have lost sight of its true significance. It is this significance, the relationship between spirit and matter, that the Master Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov attempts to restore. ‘Enter into the realm of the spirit which creates, models and fashions and in so doing you will gradually loosen the hold that the exterior world has on you; you will be free!’

‘Have you ever realized that fire is visible only if it is accompanied by light? This is because light is the matter by means of which fire manifests itself. And if we transpose this image onto a higher plane we find that light is the substance which emanated from God, the primordial Fire, at the beginning of the world, when He said, ‘Let there be light’. It is this Light which St John, in the Prologue to his Gospel, calls the ‘Word’: ‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… All things were made through Him…’ Light is the Word uttered by the Creator and by means of this Light He created the world.’
Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

‘The majority of human beings belong to the group without light. They talk about rediscovering Nature and obeying the natural laws, but which nature are they talking about? There are two natures in man, one lower, one higher. People think they are obeying Nature when in fact they are doing something exactly opposite to their higher Nature, whereas others concentrate on their divine Nature and do everything in their power to subjugate and restrict the impulses of their human nature. Confusion reigns in people’s minds and that is why it is so important to make them realize that a higher Nature exists in them, which expresses itself quite differently from the human nature they inherited from the animal kingdom.’

Previously entitled Hope for the World: Spiritual Galvanoplasty
There are two fundamental principles in the universe which are reflected in every single manifestation of nature and of life: they are the masculine and feminine principles. The whole of creation is the result of the concerted work of these two principles which are replicas of the two creative principles of the cosmos: the Heavenly Father and the Divine Mother, of which men and women are also the reflection. The two principles must work in conjunction: alone, each one is barren. Spiritual galvanoplasty is an application in the spiritual life of this science of the two principles.”
Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

‘I know that it is not easy to conceive of God as inseparable from ourselves. But I can give you some exercises which will help. Disciples of an initiatic teaching know that within them dwells a cosmic Being of which they are only dimly aware and that they have to uproot their consciousness from the narrow confines of their own lower nature, so that it can melt into that boundless consciousness within them. This Being, this spark of divinity lives in them, and it is their task to seek until they find it.’
Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

‘In Initiatic Science, to read means to be able to decipher the subtle and hidden side of objects and creatures, to interpret the symbols and signs placed everywhere by Cosmic Intelligence in the great book of the universe. To write means to leave one’s imprint on this great book, to act upon stones, plants, animals and men through the magic force of one’s spirit.’
Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov interprets all these familiar tales, whether real or symbolic, told by the Gospels. He strips them of their restrictive, purely anecdotal character, and reveals their underlying, psychological and spiritual realities. Suddenly it becomes clear that they are always relevant to our own inner lives, where the forces of materialism and spirituality confront and come to terms with each other.

‘Geometrical figures are, as it were, the framework or skeleton of reality but although they are reduced to the bare bones they are by no means dead, for they represent living realities in man and the universe. And this is why, in order to interpret them, we have to breathe the life of the spirit into them: they will mean nothing to us if we are content to study them only as they occur outside ourselves.’
Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

‘For thousands of years men have worked to multiply and amplify the sensations and perceptions entering their consciousness through their five senses, and it is this play on the keyboard of the senses that they call civilization and culture. Well, is this not rather meagre? However much we cultivate and refine our five senses they will always be severely limited in scope for they belong to the physical plane: they will never be capable of exploring any reality above or beyond the physical. Until human beings recognize that there are other areas that invite exploration, other dimensions to see, touch and breathe, they will never experience new, richer, more far-reaching or subtler sensations. Each of our organs is specialized: it has its own particular function to perform and it can convey only its own particular type of sensation. In order to experience other, new sensations, we must call into play those other, subtler organs and centres which we all possess.’Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

‘The constellations and planets are the hieroglyphs, the sacred letters which reveal, to those who know how to decipher them, how mankind and the world were created, how they evolve hand in hand and how their inner structure is identical. Every human being who becomes aware of his kinship with the universe begins to feel the need to cultivate his inner life in order to rediscover, within himself, that cosmic plenitude symbolized to perfection by the circle of the zodiac.’
Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

‘Don’t battle against your weaknesses and vices for it is they who will win: instead, learn to make them work for you. You find it perfectly normal to use natural, physical forces so why be astonished at the idea of using your own primitive forces! Once you know the rules of spiritual alchemy you will be able to transform and use the negative forces that exist in such abundance within you.’
Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

‘In order to give a clear idea of human anatomy one is obliged to have recourse to a series of different plates each of which illustrates one of the systems of the human body: the skeleton, the muscular system, the circulatory system, the nervous system, etc. Similarly, when an Initiate wants to study one or other aspect of man’s psychic structure, he applies the same method as an anatomist: he uses different diagrams or outlines according to which aspect he is studying.’
Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

‘The laws of true artistic creation are identical with the laws of spiritual creation. The creative work of an artist is exactly the same work of inner regeneration as that undertaken by one who is striving for spiritual perfection. Just as an artist uses paint and canvas, clay or bronze to create a work of art, so a spiritual person uses the raw materials of his or her own being in striving towards inner perfection.’
Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

‘Every one of our thoughts is pregnant with the power of the spirit which brought it into being, that power is constantly at work. Knowing this, each one of you has the possibility of becoming a benefactor of mankind; by projecting your thoughts into the farthest reaches of space, you can send out messages of light to help, comfort, enlighten and heal others. He who undertakes this work knowingly and deliberately, gradually penetrates into the mysterious arcana of divine creation.’
Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

‘If you are ill, it’s because you harbour disorder within yourself: you have nourished certain thoughts, feelings and attitudes that have finally affected your health. The best weapon against illness is harmony. Night and day think about synchronizing yourself with the whole of life – limitless life, cosmic life.’
Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

‘True magic, divine magic, lies in using all one’s faculties, all one’s knowledge, toward realizing the Kingdom of God on earth. Very few magi have reached the high level where the only ideal is to work in the Light for the Light. Those who manage to do so are the true benefactors of humanity.’
Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

‘Get into the habit of seeing the whole of your daily life, with all the things that you are obliged to do, the events that occur and the beings with whom you have to live or whom you meet in your work as a raw material, a matter that you have to transform. Don’t be passive. Don’t be content to accept whatever comes and submit to events: always add an element to that raw material that will animate, vivify and spiritualize it. This is what the spiritual life really is: the ability to introduce into every activity a yeast capable of catapulting it on to a higher plane. You will ask, “What about meditation and prayer? Where do they come into it?” That is just the point: it is by meditation and prayer that you pick up that subtler, purer element that enables you to give a new dimension to all your acts.’
Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

‘You must not imagine that, just because some people have mediumistic capacities, this necessarily gives them access to every region of the invisible world; on the contrary, they will see only what corresponds to their own level of consciousness, their own thoughts and desires. Each individual receives the degree of clairvoyance that matches his level of evolution; those who are still mired in the lower regions of the astral plane are bound to suffer because they will encounter only the entities of that plane. If you want to be in communication with heavenly entities, with divine splendour, you must purify yourself, broaden the scope of your consciousness and work for the highest ideal: the brotherhood of all men, the Kingdom of God. When you do this, your emanations become purer, your vibrations subtler, and not only will the spirits of light allow you to reach them, but they themselves will come to you, for they will find nourishment in you.’Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

‘How wrong we are to think that silence denotes emptiness, nothingness, the absence of all activity or creation. In reality, there is more than one kind of silence: the silence of death and the silence of a higher degree of life. It is this silence, that of the higher degree of life, that concerns us here and that we must try to understand. This is not the silence of inertia; on the contrary, it is the stillness that surrounds a work of great intensity taking place in a climate of perfect harmony. Nor is it emptiness or absence; on the contrary, it is fullness, a fullness comparable to that experienced by two human beings who love each other very deeply and share something that cannot be expressed in words or gestures. Silence is a quality of the inner life.’
Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

‘Many people find the Book of Revelations very obscure and difficult to interpret. It is true that for those who do not possess the key to it, it is obscure but for those who do possess the key it is extremely clear. Once one knows the hidden meaning of the numbers and symbols, all the elements that seem to be totally unrelated can be brought together and used to shed light on each other, and the result is an extraordinarily logical whole.’
Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

‘When you get something you want, of course, you are happy for a little while, but that satisfaction is soon followed by a feeling of emptiness, and you start to want something else. Your satisfaction never lasts. So what is the answer? The answer is to set out in pursuit of the farthest and most inaccessible goal: perfection, immensity and eternity. In pursuing this goal, you will find all the things you desire: knowledge, wealth, power and love. Yes, you will find these things without even asking for them.’
Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

‘Our psychic life is shaped and moulded every day by the forces and influences we allow to enter and impregnate us. This is why it is essential to have a store of lovely pictures that we can conjure up in our minds often, pictures that are with us day and night, so that our thoughts may be constantly in touch with all that is most elevated, pure and sacred. And what is more beautiful, more poetic or more full of meaning than water and fire, and the different forms in which they appear to us? You can fill your whole life with these pictures, and absorb them until they impregnate every cell of your body.’
