‘Throughout her pregnancy, a mother must try to create an atmosphere of purity and light around her child, so that she can work in collaboration with the incoming soul. Even though she cannot see this soul, she can at least talk to it: “Look, I will help you, I will give you the best materials, but you too can give qualities and virtues to my child so that it may become a magnificent being.”
‘The moment a mother utters these powerful, magical words, specific particles emanate from her and the spirit of the incarnating child takes them so as to build its different bodies. The child itself has nothing, it receives all it needs from its mother. That is why she must be conscious and, by her thoughts and feelings, give it only the most luminous and purest particles.’Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

“A seed is nothing either than a living being who ceaselessly calls upon the forces and materials of the cosmos so as to be able to accomplish its task. And its task is to resemble the tree that produced it. The Creator put into the seed the vocation to resemble its father, the tree ; that’s why, once planted – unless it’s defective – all of its work will go in the direction of this vocation, taking from among the elements which surround it those which suit it, relinquishing the others, and it’s in this way that it will come to express all the tendencies indicated in the diagram which it carries within it.
It is the same thing for man. Since God created man in His image, he has the possibility, by developing himself correctly, of becoming like his Heavenly Father.”Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

‘You say that you pray, that you meditate, but that there are no results. Here is a very simple but very efficient way to link yourself to the Lord. When you want to pray you create an image, that of a multitude of spirits spread throughout the whole world, but who, wherever they are, are in the process of concentrating on the Creator. Through thought, you link with these beings so as to pray with them. In this way your voice is no longer isolated in the desert of life and you appeal to Heaven together with thousands of luminous beings. Such a prayer is always heard because of the collectivity, and you benefit too. It is because you act alone that your thought does not reach its goal and it comes back to you. The secret is to unite with all those who are praying, for at every moment somewhere in the world there are beings who pray.’Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

‘Happiness is like a ball: you keep kicking it and running after it, and just as you are about to catch it, you kick it again… and start running after it all over again. Yes, it is the chase that stimulates you. It is in the quest, in the pursuit of a goal that you find happiness.
When you get something you want, of course, you are happy for a little while, but that satisfaction is soon followed by a feeling of emptiness, and you start to want something else. Your satisfaction never lasts. So what is the answer? The answer is to set out in pursuit of the farthest and most inaccessible goal: perfection, immensity and eternity. In pursuing this goal, you will find all the things you desire: knowledge, wealth, power and love. Yes, you will find these things without even asking for them.’

‘ When humans succeed in mastering the tendencies of their lower nature, which they have inherited from the animal kingdom (egoism, fear, aggression) and begin to nurture their higher nature, which aspires to harmony, unity and brotherhood, then peace and happiness will reign on the earth. Yes, a universal family is possible !’

‘You all have wonderful, divine ideas, I know, but what results have they produced? None? That proves that you still have some work to do to bring your ideas down onto the physical plane. Yes, the important thing is to bring them down into matter, because your ideas will leave you to die of hunger and thirst if you don’t know how to materialize them through action. It is not enough to have ideas; many people have ideas, but they live in such a way that there is never any connection between their ideas and their actions. There must be a link, a bridge, and this intermediary is feeling. Feeling adds flesh to ideas so that they can become a physical reality.’

‘It is a mistake to think that spirit and matter are in opposition, for matter is a condensation of spirit. And on this matter which came from it, spirit works to bring forth innumerable forms of life. Spirit and matter are two aspects of God himself. Matter is as sacred and holy as spirit because it is the daughter of spirit.’

‘Often, in the past, when they wanted to draw water from a well, they used a big wheel to which animals or even men were harnessed. Onlookers would have seen some coming towards them and others moving away from them, and they would have concluded that they were going in opposite directions. But if they could have seen this scene from above, they would have noticed that all of them were going in the same direction and doing one and the same work.
In the same way, it only seems that good and evil are the expressions of contrary currents forever in conflict… The day human beings are able to observe events from above, meaning from the spiritual, initiatic point of view, they will understand that good and evil are two forces harnessed to do the same work of keeping the wheel of life turning…’

‘Breathe in, breathe out… breathe in, breathe out… Breathing affects not only our physical life but all manifestations of our psychic life. Meditation, prayer and ecstasy are all forms of breathing.
The yogis and ascetics of India in particular have a deep understanding of the importance of breathing. Their intensive investigations have led them to realize that all the rhythms of our organism can be harmonized with the rhythms of the cosmic breath.’

‘In the future, priority will be given to artists, because the true artist is at once priest, philosopher and scientist. Yes, the role of the artist is to produce on the physical level what the intelligence understands to be true and the heart feels to be good, so that the higher world, the world of the Spirit, can come down to incarnate in matter.’

‘The universe is a living, organised and, most importantly, hierarchical whole. All the way from the densest and darkest regions of matter to the divine world, which is pure light, the universe is a hierarchy. If human beings encounter so many difficulties and experience so much suffering, it is because they do not yet have the right attitude towards this hierarchy, which has God at its summit. Only those who are aware of this hierarchy are able to see a light constantly before them, and they receive a boost to their progress along the path of evolution.’

‘The faculties of the mind and the heart are essential to us, but they are not enough. To guide us on all the paths of life, we need to develop a third faculty that only our higher self possesses: intuition. The intuition is similar to the mind in that it is a form of intelligence, and it is similar to the heart in that it is a form of sensation, but here the intelligence and the sensation are situated in the higher realms of the soul and the spirit. By mastering our thoughts and feelings, we will one day truly know beings and things.’

‘You light a candle… Its flame will give you light as long as it is fed by the burning wax… This combustion is a sacrifice without which there is no light… Like the candle, human beings have all the materials they need to feed their inner flame: all the manifestations of their lower nature. By sacrificing them they feed the flame of their spirit.’

What is a master? He is someone who has put all his strength and all his qualities to work to achieve something great.
You can become a master of karate, a master of ballet or a master of computer science. But you can also become the master of yourself.
When he was still very young – only a child – Mikhaël practiced controlling his energy, his impulses and his desires. And he succeeded. He became a true Master and devoted his whole life to helping others. He showed them the path of light which is capable of transforming people
and giving them great inner strength and great qualities.
His life is a beautiful story which can inspire us to follow his example.
A book for readers of all ages

‘Why is one born in a particular country and a particular family? Why is one healthy, rich, illustrious and powerful, or on the contrary poor, handicapped and miserable? Even those who think they are entirely free must put up with their fate because of their ignorance of the laws which govern the invisible world. The reply to these questions not only helps the disciple to unravel the tangled threads of his life, it also gives him the tools he must have in order to become master of his own destiny.’
Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

When a virtue manifests in you, it is not you who has created it, it is not your work. This virtue has come from far away, and you are only a conductor, a transmitter of the divine entities of which it is the incarnation.

Mental concentration is a difficult exercise which requires preparation. This preparation consists first in calming ourselves, because an agitated state disperses psychic energies. If we attempt to concentrate without having first established inner calm, we shock the cells of our brain and prevent them from doing their work properly. Every object has a natural inertia, and we cannot stimulate a desired movement all at once. We must start with a very gentle push, and only after a certain time will it assume on its own the momentum we wish. Never forget that the cells of our organism are living creatures, which we must neither force nor shock.

As you wake up in the morning remember to check your inner mail to see what messages have been left there overnight. Because as we sleep the soul emerges from the body and leaves for the invisible world where she travels around, studies, and works. This allows her to see and to learn many things, and when she returns all this knowledge is imprinted on our brain. And when we wake up, we remember having had certain experiences, having been given certain warnings or advice showing us the way to live the new day. You may say: ‘But why does this never happen to me? I never remember anything.’ This is because your brain is not yet sufficiently organised to receive the imprints, the images, the memories the soul brings back from her travels in the invisible world. And you can prepare your brain by living a harmonious life. You will then gradually begin to know and understand what your soul has experienced as you sleep.

It is difficult to find inner balance and to maintain it, because our day-to-day lives constantly present us with problems to solve. Whether they be personal or collective, we experience these problems as shocks, upheaval, conflict. We feel shaken, thrown off balance, disoriented, and whatever we may do in our struggle to maintain our equilibrium, we cannot succeed as long as we have no philosophical system. Because a philosophical system first of all shows us what we are, what we have to work on, and what instruments we have at our disposal to do the work. Then it shows us the course we must take, and finally the divine goal we must achieve. And it is to this goal, this summit, that we must hold fast, because it is here we shall find safety.

It is very important for men to have one central, fundamental idea around which all their other ideas revolve and which serves as a foundation and framework on which to build their whole existence. If your clearly defined, unalterable ambition is to become perfect, all your other thoughts and ideas will see this goal as their master and begin to submit to it and take part in the work it is doing within you. Whenever any alien, negative thoughts and feelings slip in, they will find themselves obliged to serve the divine world, to work for the Lord, just as you, yourself, have decided to do. In this way, the animals which stray into your inner garden in order to trample it all underfoot will become subject to that one, fundamental idea: it will be their master. So harbour, every day, one fundamental idea which will give the heavenly entities and the forces of the invisible world, the chance to do their work in you.’

Yes, in order to be safe we must cling to the divine summit, so that when the waves of human passion, both yours and those of the people around you, begin to wash over you, you will not be carried away. If you feel crushed, disoriented, even destroyed, it is your fault, because you stayed too far down. You have been shown a path leading to the only place of safety, and you have been given ladders so, then, why do you not climb

July 21:
“When you meditate and pray intensely, you send out harmonious waves, and these waves go out to the world to reach men and women who open themselves to this idea of a fraternity, this idea for which we work. Yes, by the powerful and harmonious waves that you emit, you send messages that are picked up by beings who are receptive and prepared for this. And without even knowing where this impetus comes from, they often make the resolution to work for peace and fraternity in the world, for the propagation of light, for the glory of God. Wherever they may be and whoever they may be, even if we do not know them, all these beings are linked to us, for it is the design of heaven that all children of God be united for the coming of his kingdom on earth.”

29 april : From dawn until dusk, people’s everyday lives consist of a constinuous chain of activities and preoccupations, which project them towards the periphery of their being. This means that at the close of day they realize they have forgotten what is most important. How many times have you found yourself in this situation ? Well, in order to break the chain, remember several times a day to stop and remain for a few minutes in silence; an intense silence, however, one that is alive, a silence in which your soul and spirit are able to address the Creator. By regularly exercising your faculty of concentration in this way you will succeed in escaping, for a few moments at least, the problems everyday life brings and this faculty will remain an acquisition to be used whenever a difficult moment arises. You will then realize how useful it is to be able to release yourself completely from your worries in order to direct your thought towards the divine world.

24 march : Whatever happens to you, do not become troubled or discouraged, but see to it that your spirit gradually regains control of the situation. In this way you will discover true freedom, because the spirit soars high over events, and it alone is truly free. When you restore the spirit to its place within you, something tells you that these difficulties or irritations cannot destroy your balance, your peace or your love. On the contrary. Since these illuminating experiences have taught you values you can count on, cling to them. Do not doubt the beautiful and great things you have lived, but take them along with you as provisions on this difficult path you must travel. And when the storm has passed , you will realise that what might have caused you to lose heart has actualy stengthened you.

Daily life is like a current that sweeps you along, and you do not always have the time and opportunity to reflect and to see where it is taking you. Yet, all activity can be beneficial, as long as it is attached to a high ideal, a divine philosophy. As long as you maintain this link, each of your activities can bring you something beneficial.

30 April
In the morning, when you open your window or leave your house, you see the sky and the sun. Try to look at them as if for the first time, and you will discover an entire, subtle life that until now has escaped your notice, because you have allowed an opaque screen to come between you and reality. Only by ridding yourself of this screen will you have a true understanding of things.
True understanding is like a spring, always refreshed, always renewed and enchanted. True knowledge is always full of wonder. You must not be content to cultivate this attitude towards nature alone, but towards human beings as well, for not only will you make unimagined discoveries, but you will become far more attractive and interesting to others.

4 January
Do you aspire to inner peace? Few things are as difficult to obtain. But work on the idea of loving, of doing good, of forgiving others and bringing harmony everywhere you go. The time will come when this idea becomes so powerful it will impregnate all your cells, and they will begin to vibrate in unison with it. And then peace will gradually steal its way into you, and it will never leave you again.
Of course, life on earth is such that it’s impossible for you not to be troubled by events from time to time. But they will only make a few ripples on the surface; deep down, you will always feel that peace reigns within you.

13 July : If so many laws are needed to govern people’s relationships with each other, it is because love does not yet live in them. Once they know what real love is, once they live with this love, they will no longer need laws to remind them what they can or cannot do, they will just do it, for they will spontaneously find how to harmonize with each other.
Love is the one and only force that organizes all things and makes them grow and blossom. When there is love in a family, a community or a society, there is no longer any need to say, ‘Do this, and there’ll be trouble if you don’t!’ Everyone performs their task with pleasure. Wherever there is love, there is no need for laws.

22 May : Thankfulness, gratitude, has the power to cleanse the body, neutralize poisons and renew physical matter…
Why are humans so ungrateful – ungrateful towards the Lord, ungrateful towards nature, ungrateful towards one another? All they remember of their day-to-day life is what they didn’t have or didn’t like, so they do not see that there is much to be thankful for. And yet, there is an enormous amount to be thankful for. Those who want to progress on the path of evolution must learn gratitude, for that is what will one day give them the key to the transformation of matter. Try to really understand that, if you know how to give thanks, the nature of the elements composing your physical matter will be different, more sensitive, subtler and more resistant, and you will feel your psychic and even your physical organs doing better work.Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

13 August : Spirituality does not restrict itself to so-called spiritual exercises – meditation or prayer, for example. Actually, any day-to-day activity can be made spiritual if we know how to introduce a divine element. And conversely, if prayer, meditation or any other so-called spiritual activity is not enlivened and sustained by a sublime idea, a higher ideal, it too can become extremely prosaic.
Spirituality does not consist in neglecting or scorning the material world but in always striving to act with the light and for the light. Spiritualy is about knowing how to use any activity – even the most ordinary, the most prosaic – to elevate ourselves, bring ourselves into harmony and connect with the divine world.Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov
